It was an opportunity to showcase the art projects students have made in recent weeks as the Yorkton Tribal Council hosted an art market and show of Indigenous art in Yorkton on May 25.
Melissa Antony, cultural curriculum developer with YTC said the process began a couple of months ago when YTC sponsored 鈥渁 professional development day for teachers鈥� which focused showing teachers 鈥渉ow to use art in the classroom.鈥�
Antony said there is a realization indigenous art is popular today, and by having art teachings included in multiple classroom studies 鈥渋t opens opportunities to our students.鈥�
The show at the curling rink in the Gallagher Centre brought students and their art together from YTC schools at; Ochapowace, Kahkewistahaw, Ocean Man, Cote and Keeseekoose.
In addition to the student art on display, the event was an opportunity to partner with the Yorkton Film Festival (YFF) which was hosting events at the Gallagher Centre the same day.
The YFF provided indigenous films for students with an interest in the visual arts to watch, said Antony.
