Yorkton Council has made minor changes to three bylaws dealing with Committees of Council.
One expands the size of the City's Economic Development Committee.
"In response to the increased interest in membership on the Economic Development Committee, Economic Development Officer was directed to amend the number of members appointed to the Economic Development Committee under Bylaw No. 7/2011," explained Economic Development Officer Faisal Anwar at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
The purpose of the Committee is to provide strategic direction with its recommendations to Council and centralize the efforts of different stakeholders in order to foster the process of sustainable economic development in the City ofYorkton and area.
"The existing Bylaw states that the Committee shall consist of two members from Council, and up to eight eligible members from the City at large," said Anwar.
As a result of the increased interest "It is proposed that this section be amended to
read to allow up to two members of Council, and up to nine members from the City at Large," said Anwar.
The recommendation was supported unanimously by Council.
The meeting schedule for both the Community Development, Parks and Recreation Committee and the Protective Services Committee were also unanimously changed.
"Council recently conducted a review of their Committee structures and as a result Administration was directed to amend Bylaw 20/2011, a bylaw appointing a Community Development, Parks and Recreation Committee, to better reflect their required meeting schedule," explained Darcy McLeod, Director of Community Development, Parks & Recreation.
"The exiting Bylaw indicates that meetings were to be held monthly with the exception of July and August. Business required of the Committee has evolved over the years including recent changes shifting responsibility for the Deer Park Golf Course to a separate Committee. The Committee will continue to review and provide input on policy recommendations prior to administration presenting them to Council. This process is not required monthly and can be completed as required. Therefore the Committee meeting schedule can be changed to be at the call of the Chairperson."
The Community Development, Parks & Recreation Committee's purpose is to guide administration and recommend to City Council ways to improve community, parks and recreation services in the City of Yorkton.
It was much the same scenario for Protective Services.
City Manager David Putz explained the Bylaw for the Committee "states that the meeting of the Committee shall be open to the public and held every second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 a.m. Following a Council review of Commissions and Committees, it was proposed that this section be amended to be at the call of the chair."
