Energization of the new 230kV Pasqua to Swift Current transmission line is now underway as the $260-million construction project reaches completion.

The 200-kilometre transmission line connects the Pasqua Switching Station east of Moose Jaw to the Swift Current Switching Station, west of Swift Current. The project replaces a decades-old 138kV line along the Trans Canada highway, and will help to meet the growing demand for power and increase service reliability to customers.

鈥淥nce Chinook Power Station comes online later this year, we鈥檒l need to be able to deliver that baseload power to our customers,鈥 said Kory Hayko, SaskPower Vice-President of Transmission and Industrial Services. 鈥淭he new line will be able to fill that role, and also support the integration of renewable energy being developed in southern Saskatchewan.鈥

Work on the line, which began in June 2018, took about 200,000 person-hours of work to complete. As with all major transmission line projects, SaskPower worked to minimize environmental and landowner impacts. Consultations on the project began in 2013, and feedback from stakeholders was incorporated in selecting the final route
