Yorkton is about to begin a search for a new fire chief.
Mayor Bob Maloney has confirmed Dean Clark is no longer employed by the City in the role of head of Fire Protective Services.
While not offering details of the City and Clark parting ways, terming it "a personnel issue," Maloney did say "he (Clark) did not retire," adding Council "chose to go in a different direction' regarding the position. He (Clark) is no longer with our department.
Maloney said Council "wishes him well in future endeavours."
For the interim Trevor Morrissey, who has been one of the force's deputy fire chiefs, will be acting fire chief, said Maloney.
Maloney said at present Council is still deciding what direction it will go in searching for a new permanent fire chief.
"We've talked about looking inside [the existing force]. We've talked about looking outside to see what's out there," he said, adding no timeframe for a decision has been struck.
Maloney said taking some time to decide which direction to go will not impact services. He said with Morrissey as acting chief, Council is confident the needs of the community are still being met.
