A 30-year-old Canora man accused of sexual interference with a person under the age of 16 and possession of child pornography is back in custody on new, similar charges and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Jason Teddy Matychuk appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court January 11 charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under the age of 16 and three counts of breach of an undertaking.

The RCMP originally arrested Matychuk in August 2014. Pursuant to an investigation by the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE), police executed a warrant on Matychuk’s residence near Canora where they seized computer devices and charged the man with sexual interference and possession of child porn.

He was later released on conditions that included not being in the presence of children.

On Monday, the Crown, represented by prosecutor Andrew Wyatt, opposed Matychuk’s release. Deanna Harris legal director of Yorkton Legal Aid consented to his remand until a bail hearing, which is scheduled for February 5.

ICE is an integrated investigative team comprising members of the Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert Police Services and the RCMP.
