The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce has named Yorkton Plumbing and Heating (YPH) and The Rock 98.5 its Large and Small Businesses of the year.
At the bi-annual Awards Gala April 21, the two companies were picked from among 35 nominees in nine other categories.
Justin Yawney, owner of YPH, which has been racking up the awards in recent years, including the 2014 Saskatchewan ABEX Business of the Year, said this one was special.
鈥淥bviously, this one is right in our home community, and this is where we do most of our work鈥 he said.
Dennis Dyck, The Rock station manager, was beside himself.
鈥淚 am stunned, I am flattered, I am humbled,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 absolutely amazing; it really is.鈥
Both winners attributed the win to their staff.
鈥淚 think anybody who has been recognized here tonight will come back to their people,鈥 Dyck said. 鈥淭he fact you鈥檝e got a team of people that work together, that buy into the dream that you had and just carry it forward.鈥
Juanita Polegi, executive director of the Yorkton Chamber was thrilled with the event and received kudos from the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce CEO Steve McLellan, who traveled from Regina to attend.
鈥淚 think it was a great event, a testament to the youth of the business community [which] was clearly on stage tonight,鈥 McLellan said. 鈥淪ome of the folks who have been part of the ABEX winners circle were recognized again here tonight, but I will tell you what, Yorkton people are well-served by a stellar business community.鈥
Awards of Excellence, a kind of Hall-of-Fame distinction, were given to 鈥, 鈥 and Yorkton Co-op.
Community Merit recipients included Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer, 鈥
