KAMSACK — The Heart and Home Quilting Club at Kamsack made an official presentation of a library shelf-themed wall hanging to the Kamsack public library on June 5.
“When the library moved to this building, quilters agreed that these walls were rather blank,” said Lise Rochefort on behalf of the Club. “So we decided to quilt a wall hanging to help with the decoration.”
Although Lynda Cherwenuk stepped forward to do the majority of the work, club members provided input in the design and in adding various fabrics to Cherwenuk’s personal stock for use in the piece.
Cherwenuk began work on the quilt in the autumn and estimates that at least 50 hours of quilting were spent over the winter to complete the “long arm quilting” project.
Kim Lichtenwald, who has a cabin at Madge Lake, used her long-arm equipment to complete the sewing, Rochefort explained. An initial pattern of books on shelves was enhanced with appliqué, which included a cat, globe, vase and mug.
A suggestion to “read every day” is included and one of the books can be identified as the Kamsack history book, which is entitled Spinning Stories, a Woven History and quilters agreed it is an apropos title for a library wall hanging that was quilted.
Attending the reception with Cherwenuk were quilt club members: Lise Rochefort, Barb Ginther, Olga Kiwaluk, Jo-Anne Herbster, Judy Boyechko and Brenda Andrews, who is also a member of the library board. Andrews, Betty Dix, chair of the library board and Nicole Larson, librarian, received the gift.
