Invermay School News: April was a big month for badminton

In support of World Autism Awareness Day, everyone at Invermay School was encouraged to wear blue.

INVERMAY - April was a quick but a jam packed month for Invermay School!

On April 2, the Invermay Red Cross hosted a blue theme day in support of World Autism Awareness Day. The whole school came together and the halls were filled with a sea of blue!

Invermay School has stayed very busy with badminton in the month of April.

Congratulations to Elissa Karcha and Michael Mesias who were the mixed doubles silver medal earners at the Pregis (Preeceville/Sturgis) Tournament for the Grade 8/9 Junior Badminton team on April 1.

On April 8, The Senior Eagles were in Canora for Senior Badminton Pre-Districts. Moving on to Districts was Bailey Maier in girls singles, Taelynn Maier and Madeline Graham in girls doubles, and finishing first place in girls doubles at conferences in Canora was Cassandra Ponte and Cassidy Bosovich (unable to attend districts due to another commitment). Way to go Senior Eagles!

The Senior Badminton team was in action again on April 9, hosting their home tournament. We had three very exciting final matches that went to three sets. Congratulations to Lance Corpuz for winning gold in boys singles, Cassandra Ponte and Cassidy Bosovich gold in girls doubles, Kashton MacLean and Kyle Pena took silver in boys doubles, and Bailey Maier with a silver medal in girls singles. Thank you to Sturgis, Preeceville, and Canora for attending!

Hats off to the Grade 6/7 badminton for their hard work as they hosted their own badminton tournament on April 11. They went up against Wadena and Churchbridge and the 6/7s worked hard all evening and showed great improvement all around!

On April 15, The Eagles dominated at Junior Conferences in Canora! Congratulations to the following students who advanced to Districts: Michael Mesias in boys singles, Jazmari Lucas in girls singles, Kashton MacLean and Kyle Pena in boys doubles, Addison Enge and Jasmin Kowalyshyn in girls doubles, Hanna Enge and Caidence Keller in girls doubles. Hats off to the rest of the team who showed sportsmanship and endurance!

Also on April 15, those who advanced in the Sr. Badminton Pre-Districts headed to Districts in Yorkton. It was an exhausting three-set gold medal girls match, but Bailey Maier pulled through and came out with a win. Congratulations Bailey on your ECDAA District Sr. Girls Singles Badminton Championship win!

To celebrate Easter, the K/1/2 classroom had a Bunny Picnic. They ate veggies (bunny food) and played games such as an egg race and cotton ball cannonball!

To kick off Easter Break, the Invermay School SRC hosted a Bunny Day Theme Day on April 17. Everyone looked very cute and fluffy in their bunny day attire! The SRC also set up a fun school wide Easter egg hunt with the students having a fun chocolatey surprise at the end.
