Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is hosting an open house at its Swift Current Research and Development Centre (Swift Current RDC) on Thursday.

Guests will be able to check out the research plots, greenhouses, labs and talk to the scientists about everything from cattle rations to durum and wheat breeding.

The Swift Current RDC is part of AAFC's network of 20 research and development centres, according to its online page on the Government of Canada website.

The RDC focuses on "developing varieties of spring wheat and durum; agronomic research into pulses and specialty crops; environmentally-sustainable production practices; and improved nutrition for pasture-fed beef. It also leads initiatives on bio-products, environmental stewardship and sustainable development, including mitigating the impact of climate change and maximizing producer returns, while reducing agricultural impacts on the environment."

The open house runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
